the stuff you see in movies

On Wednesday, Paul’s Grandpa Jack was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Given the numerous achievements Jack accomplished throughout his military career, he qualified for “full military honors,” which meant this…

and this…

and this…

and this…

The band, the horses, the 21 gun salute, the folding of the flag that was draped over Jack, the unmistakable “taps“… all in his honor… all to celebrate his life.

Grandpa Jack’s funeral was the first military funeral I have attended as well as the first one in which the departed received full military honors.

And yes, it was the stuff you see in movies.

Beautiful. Sorrowful.

Quiet and solemn, yet loud, speaking to each of us in a different way.

An exquisite tribute to honor one of the two men our son is named after…

And while I am wanting to get beyond “the heavy” and move forward with my writing, my blogging… get back to writing about motherhood, survivorship, tattoos and Magoo puke, I find myself quiet.

I find myself quiet, much often like Grandpa Jack was… a man of few words.

Looks like it was a beautiful ceremony to honor a great man. Thanks to Grandpa Jack for all his service. Thinking of you, Paul and the Magoo.

The service looks beautiful. Magoo looks so handsome is his jacket.

How perfect that, even though Jackson won’t get to know his grandfather and namesake in person, he was physically present at what looks like a fitting tribute to him.

  • T says:

Wow those pictures tell so much. What a beautiful service. Thank you for sharing and thank you to Grandpa Jack.

  • Brian says:

Wow what a service. I wish I was there with you on that day. Peace to all of his loved ones especially Paul. Cheers to Jackson carrying on the family name. Holla.
