“the view” and i have issues
honestly??!?!?!
did you guys not take to heart how people responded to whoopi’s “rape rape” comment before????
let me remind you…….
how low are you willing to stoop ABC????
with the original roman polanski account, i took issue with whoopi. i had a twitter discussion with sherri shepherd and while i refuse to (and will never) watch the show again, this clip was brought to my attention by another rape survivor advocate.
and barbara walters… wow!!! how quick you were to move to the question regarding vergara’s teenage son and how he deals with having a “hot mom.” well done. (heavy sarcasm) because clearly THAT is the issue at hand… having a young, hot mom. (again, heavy sarcasm)
so again, ABC, i ask… how low are you willing to go???
to laugh, to belittle, to move on to the next question as soon as possible… thereby taking us RAPE survivors and causing us to shake our heads, widen our eyes and think “are you fucking kidding me?”
imdb.com is also taking a look into sofia vergara’s “rape joke.”
*UPDATED 2:29 EST*
Sherri Shepherd of “The View” was kind enough to once again respond to the link I tweeted her this morning regarding my post above and the clip from yesterday. Sherri, thank you again for your response… but I’m still done with the show. Nothing personal.

And PS: Why wasn’t this addressed today on the show???
And PPS: Mucho gracias to @culturalsavage for help getting the screen shots.

All I can say is WOW. That is messed up. As a rape survivor, I have more to say than that but I will keep it appropriate. How can ABC just allow that kind of talk? But wait, it wasn’t “rape rape” was it? OMG. That woman needs slapped!!!!
I wonder if The View will offer an apology or respond to what was said. How sad that a woman’s vanity would lead her to such an ugly, ugly, and hurtful thing to be said, all with a toss of her hair and a giggle. Hey, Ugly Beauty, just own up to your age and keep the pain of violation out of your comedy routine.
i must say i’m slightly confused because she laughs, tosses her hair, etc…vergara laughs… but is she laughing along??? is she joking??? i’m so disheartened. and as a survivor i am disgusted.
but hey, at least whoopi coughed this time… LOUDLY.
Although I can’t blame The View for the comment directly (since none of the actual hosts said it)(although I really wish I could cause I hate that show with the fire of a thousand hells), I can blame them for not jumping all over the “lady” that said it. Rape is never something to make light of. EVER.
wow. just wow. can’t believe how flippant they all were like oh ok, moving along…

I didn’t watch the clip because I can’t stand that show. I can’t stand that one girl Elizabeth….She should have been sterilized long before she started menstruating, because now, there is a little Elizabeth running around and will probably pollute the world with her irritating voice and whatnot.
No, she was making A JOKE. She had her son when she was 20. She’s JOKING about being “raped” at 13, and that’s the only way she could lie about her age, because her son is 18. UH… Funny would have been, “Yeah I really got around the school yard”. Funny would have been… pretty much ANY THING ELSE.
NOT OK. Just NOT.
With 1 in 4 women being rape survivors, I hope this costs The View a lot of viewers. I know I won’t be tuning in, ever. I would hope they’ll make an apology, but I doubt it.
Wow, just ridiculous. I can’t believe she said that and thought it was appropriate. Shame on you “the view”, shame on you.
Hi there…delurking to say that while I agree that the actress made a hurtful and ridiculous comment, I also have to add that just because someone is on a TV show (this woman is from that new show Modern Family) doesn’t mean they a) have a brain b) have anything intelligent to say or c) know how to speak unscripted. This is just an example of live TV gone bad. I’m not sure what you wanted the co-hosts to do. Jump all over the woman? Start yelling at her? It was a stupid mistake, but I think we should focus on things we can change…like bringing awareness to rape and survivorship (which you already do very well, Nic). Addressing this kind of stuff is a waste of your talent and time. Okay, back to lurking now…
@Karen Thank you for delurking to add your input. While I agree with you that the actress, like you said, may not, “a) have a brain b) have anything intelligent to say or c) know how to speak unscripted,” I think the co-hosts of “The View” should have handled it differently. Even if they couldn’t do so in that moment of “oh shit, we’re live” on tv… My hope would be that given past issues the show has had with regards to this issue, they would’ve perhaps addressed it today, after the fact, maybe stating something along the lines of “while this actress may have said this, bla bla bla, and laughed about it, we are disappointed and do not condone those types of jokes.” That was my hope in once again tweeting Sherri Shepherd about the issue.
Again, I appreciate you delurking, offering your opinion, as well as your kind words. Please feel free to delurk here anytime.
Thanks Nic! I shared this on my facebook page. I could not believe it when I saw it on E Online. The letter E Online referred to had some awful comments as well. Truth is she was not raped but thought it was funny to say she was and the View “ladies” did not address it. I find it very disturbing. Thank you for contacting Sherri SHepherd again.
@Diane Thank you for your comment. I truly and ALWAYS appreciate your input. I was also sent a tweet from TMZ.com who ran a segment about this story. My question then would be posed to ABC as a network… will they offer a response with regards to this because BOTH “The View” and “Modern Family” run on their network??? Will ABC as a whole take at least make a statement???
