Pickle’s First Gift from Carousel Designs
While I am not having a baby shower for this little Miss Pickle, I am humbly accepting (and reviewing) fantastic gifts on her behalf. So when the lovely folks of Carousel Designs contacted me to review their beautiful gray and yellow zig zag crib blanket, I was delighted. And grateful. Because you can never have too many blankies for your wee ones, especially when they are as chic and stylish as this one…
Whether you are browsing all things lovely on Pinterest, or scoping out the latest trends for baby nurseries, Chevron is popping up EVERYWHERE. Something about this zig zag print has people painting accent walls in their homes, looking at color and pattern in a new way, and spicing up classic designs.
Now, I don’t know how much of a fashionista this little miss will be, but far be it from me to keep her in the dark when it comes to the latest of trends.
So, let’s get down to business… This blanket measures 34″ by 43″ which is a great size for a blanket that can be used in a multitude of ways. I can very easily use this blanket to snuggle up my kiddos in their car seats and keep them toasty while we’re on the run. I can also spread this blanket out on the floor for Pickle to get in some serious tummy time action. It’s large enough to cover a decent amount of space without her rolling off the blanket and into the dog hair that litters my floor. It’s small enough to take here, there, and everywhere.
With our family happily living back in Florida, the blankets that I’m looking forward to using with Pickle are lighter weight ones. I have no need for thick, heavy, winter blankets in this climate. With the Carousel Designs zig zag blanket, one side is ultra soft in cozy yellow minky, while the patterned side is a little more durable in texture. Still the entire blanket remains light weight overall. It’s a great blanket option for those of us living in the south.
Clearly, Jackson had no problem bundling up his buddies for some Saturday morning television…
It goes without saying that this will certainly be a well used and beloved blanket for our Miss Pickle once she joins our family in the spring.
In the meantime, I have found myself infatuated with Carousel Designs’ online Nursery Designer. Having a ‘design your own nursery’ option on your website is IDEAL for pregnant mamas who can’t get out to browse baby bedding and fabric designs for whatever reason. You can choose favorite patterns and colors, save the designs that you’ve created and return to them at a later time, and share the custom designs of your virtual nursery with family and friends. ‘Nesting’ has taken on a whole new meaning.
With my husband deploying in the upcoming weeks and missing the birth of his first daughter, I would be remiss not to mention the charity work that Carousel Designs has been doing with Operation Shower, an incredible non-profit that hosts fabulous baby showers for spouses of deployed service members, to ease the burden of deployment.
As a veteran-owned business we understand the importance of selfless service and we greatly appreciate the sacrifices that members of our armed forces make on a daily basis. Therefore, we have a special place in our hearts for organizations that provide assistance to U.S. military service members and their families. A tremendous THANK YOU to Carousel Designs for their generous gift to our baby girl. We cannot wait to send you pictures of our precious Pickle wrapped up in her chic blankey… that is… if her older brother ever gives it up!
You can find Carousel Designs on both facebook and twitter. Please give them a shout!
I was not compensated for this post. I did receive the above mentioned blanket for review purposes. All glowing opinions are of my own.
tutu lady helps our klug crew
most of you loyal readers have kept up with my posts about the klug family. rachel and billy are two of our best friends as well as jackson’s godparents. they fought like hell to have the beautiful twins they are blessed with, 2 year old micah and malorie.
and most of you who have kept up with their story over the last few months, are aware of malorie’s ependymoma and the subsequent treatments she is now undergoing to battle the cancer.
so, i’m sure you can put two and two together when you watch the below clip from NBC nightly news that aired on wednesday evening… (you may want to grab some kleenex.)
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
after watching that clip on wednesday night, i could not get to my laptop fast enough to look up the website for emmy’s heart, the nonprofit that laura pita created where you can visit her etsy shop and purchase the custom made tutus and capes.
Emmy’s Heart volunteers create tutus and crowns for BUTTERFLY PRINCESSES and capes and masks for SUPERHEROES undergoing treatment for serious illnesses or disabilities in South Florida.
Help bring joy to boys and girls who are fighting serious illnesses.
both paul and i looked at each other and knew that mal needed a tutu… like yesterday.
leave it to pregnant-brained me to have malorie’s radiation treatments on my calendar to start NEXT week, thinking i had a full 7 days to work on contacting laura pita and getting this tutu project going.
WRONG. mal went in today for her PICC line (IV access line) and begins radiation tomorrow. (side note: her appointment today went great and her PICC line procedure was successful.)
with 24 hours of knowledge that laura pita’s generous heart existed, i came to my senses and began correspondence with her. she has quickly responded and i can now say that my heart is EXPLODING with excitement for this family that means so much to us…
SURPRISE BILLY AND RACHEL! YOU HAVE A CUSTOM PINK TUTU BEING MADE FOR MALORIE, AND A BLUE CAPE AND MASK MADE FOR MAL’S BESTEST BUD AND BIGGEST SUPPORTER, MICAH! (both are currently being made and will be on their way to you next week.)
as soon as she gets a free moment to get the html code to me, i will attach a button both here in this post as well as on my sidebar to advertise laura pita’s etsy shop. in the meantime, you can learn more about emmy’s heart by clicking here, and visit her etsy shop here.
it is this kind of awesome that makes the internet so stinkin cool.
sometimes you won’t know your own triggers

i couldn’t watch 127 hours. i tried. but i didn’t even make it 45 minutes into the film before i had a full blown panic attack and asked my husband to turn it off and place the DVD back into the netflix envelope.

years ago, when i worked as a rape victim advocate for the state of florida, my boss at the time (and fellow survivor) told me, “sometimes you won’t know what it is that triggers you.”
since i was raped, there have been the “obvious” triggers that a rape survivor suffering from PTSD may experience. these include but are not limited to an unending list of things, ranging from the sound of ones voice, to the touch of another human being, to the color of a shirt.

my boss was right. it’s been over 10 years since i was raped and a little over a month ago, i found myself in the midst of a moment filled with panic, anxiety, rage, and uncontrollable emotion… because i watched a movie where the main character had zero control over what was happening to him, and i could relate all too well.
